SQUARECITY
Many people agree that traveling is a unique and eye opening experience. Since moving to Canada years ago, the idea of photographing Calgary's skyline was all the time in my head. After this, the golden question emerged: How can you photograph the city's sky and the city's mood at the same time?. Here is the thing, the closer to the Equator you are, the more predictable sunlight becomes along the year. For instance, whereas in Peru the sun rises at 6:00 AM and sets at 6:00 PM during the summer, in Canada sun rises at 4:30 AM and sets around 11:00 PM. That is madness! Not knowing that, was a big deal for me, so ever since, the sunny calgarian sky became the inspiration for this project.
Being one of the sunniest cities in Canada, Calgary, Alberta receives over 300 sunny day a year, and one thing is for sure here, its skies are breathtaking. Being able to understand this opened my mind in a creative way. Despite the fact that Calgary doesn’t have the tallest building the the entire country, it has the bluest skies that you will ever encounter in Canada. Therefore, I created SquareCity with the purpose of showing those who haven’t visited this charming city how mesmerizing looking up at the sky can be.
